Numbers below blend ServiceGrid customer data, industry survey data (Nexstar, ContractorCommerce, Service Roundtable, etc.), and BLS sales benchmarks. Ranges represent the 25th-75th percentile. Mid-tier metros are the baseline; adjust ±15-25% for higher-cost or lower-cost regions.
Service ticket = total customer-paid amount including parts, labor, dispatch fees, and any add-ons. Tax excluded.

How to use this data
Benchmark your own averages. Pull last quarter's completed jobs and calculate your average ticket per job type. Compare to the ranges above. If you're at the low end of the range, you're probably underpriced. If you're above the high end, you may be losing close rate.
Plan capacity using these averages. For revenue forecasting, multiply expected jobs per week by your average ticket and adjust for seasonal mix.
Set quote-acceptance benchmarks. Quotes near your average ticket should accept at 50-70%. Quotes 50%+ above average accept lower (20-40%). Quotes well below average accept higher (70-90%) but at risk of margin loss.
Watch the average ticket trend. Over 12-24 months, your average ticket should rise modestly with inflation and pricing adjustments. A flat or declining average ticket signals pricing problems.
What drives variance within a trade
A few patterns explain ranges within each trade:
Customer mix. Operators serving higher-end customers see higher average tickets. Operators with rental property and lower-income residential mix see lower.
Service mix. Heavy on installs/replacements = higher average ticket. Heavy on tune-ups and small repairs = lower.
Urgency mix. Heavy on emergency / after-hours work = higher ticket due to premium rates. Standard-hours mix = lower.
Geography. Coastal metros and high-COL regions sit at the upper end. Rural and small-metro regions sit at the lower end.
Trade specialization. Generalist operators average lower than specialists. A boutique HVAC operator focused on heat pumps will average higher than a generalist HVAC operator doing tune-ups + replacements + diagnostics.
